Hanky Pancreas: costume change

Influenced by superhero costumes: In superhero stories, some garments have great erotic significance Sudden virility and sex appeal gained when character changes into costume (costume as THE source of sexual power) What would happen if the insulin pump became of symbol of power and strength? How could that be achieved?

Spiral / Rita Ricochet

The transformation by Arize left her with six arms, both cybernetic and organic, teleportation abilities and knowledge of the dark arts. While in the Body Shoppe she also learned the skills needed to perform body modification herself.

The Wasp / Janet Van Dyne

Janet Van Dyne has also displayed several non-superhuman abilities that have garnered her special fame and attention, foremost of which is her fashion sense; in nearly all of her early appearances, she sported a new costume, presumably designed and manufactured on her own as she is a gifted fashion designer. She is also a skilled amateur screenwriter.

Oh, Brother + zipper pouch

I got a sewing machine a couple days ago! Here is the first thing I made! I wanted to make something with a zipper because I'm going to be implementing zippers in Hanky Pancreas clothing in the near future.

Casttoo

The silver lining to the dark cloud of breaking a bone is obviously the sweet cast you get to wear. It tells the world that you're a badass (or very clumsy, but let's stick with badass). But how can you make casts even cooler? By making them look like an X-ray of your broken bone! That's just what Casttoos are. You send them in your X-ray, and they'll send you back a waterproof "cast tattoo" that will make it look like you can see right through your cast. So cool it almost makes me want to go break my arm. Almost. Source: http://dvice.com/archives/2010/02/make-your-arm-c.php

Narrative Medicine: work in progress

Narrative Medicine Some have called me hypochondriac, but I'm usually right. I know my body on a level many are fortunate enough not to. I always think something is wrong with me, I mean, there is always something wrong with me. The word hypochondria was created  in 1373, a hybrid of hypo, or under, and chondros, or cartilage (of the breastbone). The word derived from the ancient belief that this area of the body was the seat of melancholy. By 1668 it meant depression or melancholy without real cause and in 1839 it shifted again to mean illness without specific cause. The etymology of words has started to fascinate me lately. Everything has a story. Deep down into the ground of everything has roots in ancient systems of belief. I would agree that I am an 1839 hypochondriac, that I have an illness without a specific cause. I was diagnosed...

Mythology Influenced Design

Conceptual Framework and Research: Over winter break I happened upon an interview with Joseph Campbell that I found very inspirational. Joseph Campbell has written many books on mythology and the role it plays in our lives. I began thinking about the potential for mythology to influence the designs for my t-shirts. In the past week I have been doing a lot of research on mythology and its psychological benefits, I have also been reading many ancient myths. I am interested in looking at the potential for mythology as a way to understand and communicate struggles/triumphs experienced by diabetics. My idea for Day 1 project was to practice the methodology of choosing the story of a specific diabetic person and designing something for that individual that references what they are going through with mythological symbols. I chose to design for a well-known diabetic blogger I've been following for a while named...
