Hanky Pancreas™: A pearl, a girl

For in nearly all countries where these gems have been prized and from the earliest period, they have been credited with mystic properties and healing virtues. Born of the wind, the atmosphere, the lightening, and the light, may this pearl shell, born of gold, protect us from straits! With the shell [we conquer] disease and poverty. The shell is our universal remedy; the pearl shall protect us from straits! Born in the heavens, born in the sea, brought on from the river, this shell, born of gold, is our life-prolonging amulet. Hidden soul of the oyster. One fable credits it with a peculiar magical power: by speaking the right word, a spirit can be called therefrom which makes the owner a possessor of all the happiness of the earth. Unlike other gems, the pearl comes to us perfect and beautiful, direct from the hand of nature. Deemed especially appropriate as...

Hanky Pancreas™: Little bird

Becoming a Bird. Under certain conditions, the living could be transformed into birds. Some legends involve birds that change into or inhabit the bodies of humans. Among certain peoples in northern Europe and Asia, the spirits of birds such as eagles, owls, and crows are said to enter the bodies of shamans to inspire them. In some myths, humans and other beings acquire the ability to fly like birds. Such supernatural flight, like many mythological powers, can be either good or evil. Norse tales told that the goddess Freya's feather cloak enabled the wearer to fly. Birds warn of dangers ahead, reveal secrets, and guide heroes and travelers on their way. Hanky Pancreas™: Alchemist

Here are some shots from my first photoshoot with my awesome Type 1 Diabetic fitness model, Kerry Brown. Alchemy: An ancient practice focused on the attempt to change base metals into gold, investigating the preparation of the "elixir of longevity", and achieving ultimate wisdom, involving the improvement of the alchemist as well as the making of several substances described as possessing unusual properties. The best-known goals of the alchemists were the transmutation of common metals into gold (called chrysopoeia) or silver (less well known is plant alchemy, or "spagyric"); the creation of a "panacea", or the elixir of life, a remedy that, it was supposed, would cure all diseases and prolong life indefinitely; and the discovery of a universal solvent. Carl Jung reexamined alchemical symbolism and theory and began to show the inner meaning of alchemical work as a spiritual path.

Phil says

London born Philip started using his head as a canvas for creativity back in 2006 when he began to go bald. He did not want to conform to shaving his head like everyone else so started using it as an art form to express. Philip’s head designs are now becoming iconic within London’s fashion and art scenes where people strive to be original. http://www.philsays.com/

follow the yellow brick road

My mother was driving and crying at the same time, looking at me from time to time in the passenger seat. Soon I was in a hospital bed, opening up the little palms of my hands to investigate each fingertip covered with a bandage. Then there was this Munchkin, handing me a signed photograph from the cast of The Wizard of Oz. While these may sound like scenes from an altered state of consciousness, these are my first memories.

Innovation Without Cause

To many of what we call ‘innovations’ are merely directed at increasing the growth and wellbeing of the technosphere – bigger economy, bigger corporations, more technological devices – rather than actually improving the lives of people. - KOERT VAN MENSVOORT Excerpts from Razorius Gilletus: Full text here

Super Prosthetics Project: Experiments in Arm Wear

http://www.superprostheticsproject.com/ The Super Prosthetics Project is about exploring armwear as an object of empowerment, choice and identity. The purpose is to conduct a series of creative experiments to challenge current ideas of prosthetics and explore what a wearer might choose to create in that space if he/she could have any functionality or aesthetic. It is hoped that the project will culminate in a series of exciting objects that will allow a wearer to do or experience something extra-ordinary.

the yellow brick road

This year, we had a record number of applicants (nearly 700), and we were able to offer admission to fewer than 40 of them. As a result, it was necessary to deny admission to many highly qualified students. there is a heart still beating & a future that is brighter than ever.

Hanky Pancreas: Modtronic

Modding the insulin pump -- MODTRONIC! The concept: I'm interested in creating bra inserts for the Medtronic Minimed that meet different style or function needs. This is part of a 3 stage transitional series. The first stage would just be a bra insert, the second stage would be a bra insert with some extra decoration on the top (visible if someone looks down the shirt), the third stage would be an insert that has long pieces of cloth or other decorative materials attached (coming out and accessorizing whatever you are already wearing). The materials used do not represent my ideal look and feel - - it is simply a proof of concept.

3-D Comics: Aitor Throup

The structural elements in the products that we use, the buildings we live in, the clothes that we wear and even the art that we create have a life cycle. Structural origins are functional and relevant but throughout time become deconstructed and nonfunctional. Eventually rooms in a house or construction details in a garment become nothing more than empty gesture. On the other hand, there are fully functional traditions that have been buried by empty gesture, like storytelling.
